Allow Me To (Re)introduce Myself.
Oh, hi there, thanks for dropping by. It's been a while, hasn't it?
If that intro wasn't enough of a giveaway, then let me make it just a little more obvious: I have no fucking idea whatsoever where I'm going with this blog post. It's the first one that I've written in a long time, so I apologise in advance, but there's a distinct possibility that it could end up reading like the equivalent of a wet brain fart very soon. Let's just think of it as a gentle reintroduction, a bit of dipping our collective toes (my inner podophobe is screaming at me right now) in the water and we'll take it from there...
Yep, I've been...away, and this blog - hell, this site as a whole - has been left to fester, mouldering away in a corner like some forgotten, unloved thing. I really need to unfuck that, and I will, hopefully. This last year has seen me putting much more of my focus into actual writing, coming off the back of an almost year-long hiatus that saw my creative impulses run drier than a (insert your own euphemism here, and make it as rude as you like, I really don't mind)...you get the idea.
Last year saw two new releases from me; my third novel, Meat Puppets, and a third collection of shorts, the appropriately-titled The Voices In My Head Will Not Stop. Well, I say appropriately-titled, but for a while they did stop, shunted away into muted whispers by other things that just happened to shout louder. So far, this year has seen me continue to work away on my literary baby. Novel number four, Penance. I've been working on Penance for quite some time now, picking it up and putting it down again each time. It was the last thing I was working on before the proverbial shit hit the fan and the inspirational well dried up, a labour of love if ever there was one. By the time it's done (and it will be done, I promise), it'll probably be the closest I've come to writing what I would consider straight-up horror. It's also gonna be a bit of a beast in terms of length. Well, it fucking ought to be after all this time.
Short version: I was gone, now I'm back and I'm better than I ever was. Or at least I'm just as good, I haven't quite decided which yet. So stick around with me just a little longer, I think we might have some exploring left to do. I know some nice, quiet places. Just remember to bring a torch with you, yeah?
Speak soon, okay?
Love and gratitude,
